This is the simplest way to travel short distances, as richshaws are everywhere and they are inexpensive. Make sure you agree upon a fare before entering the vehicle.

Bus

Cochin has an efficient and easy-to-use public bus system. Buses can take you anywhere you would like to go in the city. Destinations are displayed in a large Malayam script, and then in smaller English script below. Something that Western travelers should be aware of is that a section of seats towards the front of the bus is reserved for women, and men should not sit there unless they are vacant.

Taxi

Yellow-taxi service in Cochin is also inexpensive and relatively hassle-free. To get to and from the airport, there is a pre-paid fare service, where you pay the fare before getting in the taxi. Prices depend upon the point of origin and the destination.

Ferry

Ferries are necessary to travel among the city's many islands, such as the man-made Willington Island, Fort Kochi, Mattancherry and Vypeen.
